- 1
Under the divine canopy of moon flowers,
one pale angel flutters
on the breath of an moth. - 2
- Three figures
knelt in a field of poppies,
studying a harp-shaped map,
their wings folded like cloth napkins. - 3
He abandons the heavens,
seeking the psalms of migrating butterflies
as they transform autumn winds
into whirls of flowering light. - 4
An angel and God
are one.
A man and a woman and a prayer
are one
with God. - 5
We do not understand their dark red wings,
or the songs that sparkle like mica.We do not know why some are poor girls
or others manifest as orchids. We do not know that the rainbows
angels toss over their shoulders
are the heavens
sloughing off old skin.We only know
that their beauty is a language resembling life. - 6
The soul drinks from the shadows of rivers
and oceans. It drinks from the idea
of substance.
Yet the soul inhabits its essence
the way electricity dwells in lightning. - 7
Why do we look for angels
in golden robes, when the neighbor lady—
in her fluffy bedroom slippers—
offers to bring chicken soup when we’re ill? - 8
I know glass spheres, wreaths of roses,
bold sunflowers and women with bright red lips
are all rhythms beyond the ear.
What dreams we inherit
are part of what we know
without knowing. - 9
When Lucifer left heaven
God drew a line
He dared us to cross–
from Himself to infinity
which, since He is everywhere,
defined Infinite Circles, edges
of domain
that fractured every wing
and heartbeat in existence. - 10
At the sight of angels
gossiping over green hedges,
we cry out for our wounded,
our lost ones. We demand
serious seraphim. - 11
I flew over the ocean once,
mistaking the white froth of whales
for an angel’s lace wings. - 12
My heart is beating.
An angel must be writing poems. - 13
The clock tocked all afternoon.
It was the present.
And it was going to be the present.
The angel sat,
chewing impatiently on a feather.

Clinton: Still no congratulations for Obama
Posted: 10:30 PM ET
Clinton did not acknowledge Obama’s winnings or congratulate him on his victories over the past two nights.
Clinton did not acknowledge Obama’s winnings or congratulate him on his victories over the past two nights.
EL PASO, Texas (CNN) – For the second election night in a row, Hillary Clinton failed to acknowledge or congratulate Barack Obama after he won the day in dominating fashion.
On Tuesday in El Paso, hours after Virginia had been called for Obama, she stuck to her “Texas campaign kickoff” message and did not stray from an energetic, Lone Star-themed stump speech. She did mention Obama by name, only to chide his health care plan.
On Saturday night in Richmond, Virginia, Clinton spoke to a crowd of thousands at the state’s annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner, but she ignored Obama’s quartet of blowout primary and caucus wins that day as well (Obama also won the Maine caucuses the next day).
The courtesy of conceding a primary or caucus loss — and then congratulating your opponent — is by no means required. But it has become standard practice during campaign season.
Clinton congratulated Obama and John Edwards after their first and second place finishes in the Iowa caucuses. Obama returned the favor in New Hampshire, saying Clinton “did an outstanding job.” That courtesy continued through the early states.
But as the race has shifted to a delegate chase with dozens of states in play around the country, the notion of congratulating one’s opponent seems, for Clinton, to have fallen by the wayside.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — Striking Hollywood writers are going back to work.
The Writers Guild of America said its members voted Tuesday to end their devastating, three-month strike that brought the entertainment industry to a standstill.
Writers will be back on the job Wednesday after voting in Beverly Hills and New York.
“At the end of the day, everybody won,” Leslie Moonves, chief executive officer of CBS Corp., told The Associated Press.
“It was a fair deal and one that the companies can live with, and it recognizes the large contribution that writers have made to the industry.”
Moonves was among the media executives who helped broker a deal after talks between the guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios, collapsed in acrimony in December.
Residuals for TV shows and movies distributed online was the most contentious issue in the bitter dispute involving the 12,000-member union and the world’s largest media companies and other producers.
Under a tentative contract approved Sunday by the union’s board of directors, writers would get a maximum flat fee of about $1,200 for streamed programs in the deal’s first two years and then get 2 percent of a distributor’s gross in year three.
“These advances now give us a foothold in the digital age,” said Patric Verrone, president of the West Coast guild. “Rather than being shut out of the future of content creation and delivery, writers will lead the way as television migrates to the Internet.”
One winner in the vote was the Academy Awards, which can now be staged February 24 without the threat of pickets or a boycott by actors that would have dulled the glamour of Hollywood’s signature celebration.
The strike’s end will allow many hit series to return this spring for what’s left of the current season, airing anywhere from four to seven new episodes. Shows with marginal audience numbers may not return until fall or could be canceled.
“It will be all hands on deck for the writing staff,” said Chris Mundy, co-executive producer of CBS’ drama “Criminal Minds.” He hopes to get a couple of scripts in the pipeline right away, with about seven episodes airing by the end of May.
The combined New York-Beverly Hills count was overwhelmingly in favor of ending the strike: 3,492 voted yes, with only 283 voting to stay off the job.
Writers did not vote on whether to formally accept the tentative deal, which was reached after a February 1 breakthrough between union negotiators and studio executives.
The guild will mail contract ratification ballots to members over the next few days. Writers can also vote at meetings. All ballots must be cast by February 25.
The walkout stopped work on dozens of TV shows, disrupted movie production and turned the usually star-studded Golden Globes show into a news conference. It also dealt a severe financial blow to a wide range of businesses dependent on work from studios.
The strike took a $3.2 billion toll in direct and indirect costs on the economy of Los Angeles County, the home of most of the nation’s TV and film production, according to a new estimate from Jack Kyser, chief economist for the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp.
The last writers strike, a 153-day walkout in 1988, caused an estimated $500 million in lost wages.
The latest strike began November 5, and formal negotiations broke off December 7 after the guild pushed to unionize writers on reality and animated productions.
Informal talks began January 23 between studio heads and the union, which extended an olive branch by withdrawing its proposal to organize reality and animated shows. It also decided against picketing the Grammy Awards.
Pressure to reach an agreement mounted after the studio alliance reached a tentative contract January 17 with the Directors Guild of America.
Among the executives who took the lead in breaking the impasse were Peter Chernin, chief operating officer of News Corp., and Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Co.

Proiectul e destul de lung, are “burti” si overall e cam prea pretentios. Mavs forward George blocks trade of Kidd to Mavs
By Marc Stein
ESPN.com
(Archive)
The New Jersey Nets were so convinced that they were trading Jason Kidd to Dallas on Wednesday night that they held him out of their game in Toronto.
But Mavericks reserve forward Devean George — who recently announced a desire to be traded if his playing time didn’t increase — has unexpectedly taken advantage of a little-known rule to block the deal.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to a seven-player deal earlier Wednesday in which Dallas would have sent 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, center DeSagana Diop, guard Maurice Ager and George along with $3 million and two future first-round picks — to the Nets for Kidd and forward Malik Allen. The teams were planning to submit the trade details for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn’t agree to being included.
No Kidding Around
Jason Kidd, despite being a month away from turning 35, is still producing at a high level. Only two others, Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson, have met his averages (below) over the course of a season, and they did so in their early- and mid-20s.
Kidd by the numbers Career 2007-08
Points 14.3 11.3
Assists 9.2 10.4
Rebounds 6.7 8.1
FG Pct. 40.1 *36.6
*Career worst
Dallas and New Jersey, sources said, haven’t abandoned hope of changing George’s mind or trying to complete the deal another way after getting so far in the process. But Wednesday’s confusing late developments left both clubs in a disconcerting state of limbo.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant is the only player in the league with a specific no-trade clause in his contract, but league rules dictate that it’s a right George also possesses because he’s on a one-year contract (worth $2.4 million) and because Dallas would have Early Bird rights to re-sign him this summer.
If such a player is traded, Bird rights are not traded with him. So league rules compensate for this by requiring George’s consent in any trade.
The Mavericks thus went from making tentative plans to have Kidd join them in Phoenix for Thursday’s showdown against the rival Suns to starting George in Wednesday’s home game against Portland. George responded by shooting 0-for-11 from the floor in 33 minutes in Dallas’ 96-76 victory.
“It would have been done tonight if not for [George],” said one team official involved in assembling what looked to be the NBA’s third blockbuster deal this month.
But Dallas, according to sources, is not optimistic about changing George’s mind, meaning that both teams would likely have to put other players in the deal if the nine-year veteran can’t be swayed. The Nets wanted George included because his contract expires at season’s end, adding to their long-term salary savings from the transaction.
“We’re not trying to block anything,” Bartlestein told ESPN.com. “The issue is that if he agrees to this deal, he has to give up his Bird rights. To lose that tool in today’s world of free agency is a difficult thing to do.
“In this day and age, the sign-and-trade is a valuable tool that I don’t want to lose for Devean. We’re not trying to cause a problem. Teams have to do what’s in their best interest. Sometimes players do, too. I hate to cause grief, but I have to do what’s best for Devean. It’s not a power play. My job is to protect him.”
The Mavericks could try to tweak the deal slightly by substituting Eddie Jones and rookie Nick Fazekas or Jones and veteran Juwan Howard for George. The Nets would have to add guard Darrell Armstrong to keep the Nets from going over the 15-man roster limit.
Another option is Dallas signing and trading the retired Keith Van Horn in George’s place. Although he’s been out of the game since the end of the 2005-06 season, Van Horn hasn’t filed official retirement papers with the league, allowing Dallas to retain his rights. The Mavs, then, could create an expiring contract for the Nets by adding Van Horn to the deal in name only, because only the first year of a contract must be guaranteed in a sign-and-trade arrangement.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban, though, insisted to ESPN.com last week that “we won’t use [Van Horn] in any deal for anyone.”
That’s because Kidd would cost the Mavericks nearly $40 million next season, thanks to the luxury tax, if they only sent Harris, Van Horn and salary-cap filler to the Nets. Even the much simpler step of taking George out and plugging Van Horn in would still add to what was already a substantial bill for Cuban.
If George stays in the trade, Dallas’ luxury-tax bill at season’s end rises from $9.1 million to $15 million, along with the $3 million cash sweetener that Dallas has agreed to add to the deal. If George stays on the Mavs’ roster and Van Horn is signed, Dallas’ tax bill rises further to $17-plus million at season’s end.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Mavs coach Avery Johnson said that many trades “get to the 20-yard line, inside the red zone, and don’t get into the end zone.”
Asked if he thought the trade would go through, Mavs owner Mark Cuban said, “No, I don’t think so,” according to the newspaper.
Before news of George’s resistance surfaced, members of both organizations were treating the trade as a done deal.
“I love him,” Nets coach Lawrence Frank told reporters in Toronto before the Nets’ Kidd-loss to the Raptors. “He’s a very special person, but it’s time for both him and the organization to part ways.
“We’re giving up a Hall of Fame point guard and some good role players. If this deal goes through, we’ll be receiving some very good players as well and a new era of Nets basketball will start because Jason is that significant a player.”
As part of the original arrangement, New Jersey was expected to buy out Stackhouse’s contract immediately, with Dallas hoping to re-sign him once Stackhouse sits out the 30 days required by a league rule that was instituted before the 2005-06 season.
“I feel great,” Stackhouse told the Associated Press. “I get 30 days to rest, then I’ll be right back. I ain’t going nowhere.
“I think Devin has a lot of upside, but Jason Kidd is the type of all-league point guard our team needs,” Stackhouse continued. “We just need a jolt. Adding a player like him can re-energize a team, hopefully.”
Dallas had widely been considered the favorite to win the Kidd trade sweepstakes from the start, tantalized by the prospect of bringing Kidd back more than a decade after the pre-Cuban regime drafted him out of Cal, watched him share rookie of the year honors with Grant Hill in 1995 and then traded him to Phoenix one day after Christmas in 1996.
The Mavs’ biggest reservation wasn’t sacrificing Harris, who signed a contract extension over the summer. Sources maintain that Dallas, while reluctant to part with one of Cuban’s favorite players and its point guard of the future, has been resigned for some time to losing Harris if it meant getting Kidd back.
The greater hesitation, sources said, is that they would also have to part with Stackhouse and Diop, weakening Dallas’ depth. Even if the Nets do waive Stackhouse and Dallas is able to re-sign him after a 30-day wait, losing Diop is a significant blow. His departure would leave the inconsistent Erick Dampier as the Mavericks’ only veteran center at a time when potential playoff foes like the Los Angeles Lakers (Pau Gasol) and Phoenix Suns (Shaquille O’Neal) are getting bigger.
But Dallas appears more motivated than ever in spite of those concerns and the current lack of a third team to join in and broaden the trade, believing that Kidd — although he turns 35 in March and is threatening to establish a new career low with his 36.7 percent shooting from the field — is still a prime source of leadership and mental toughness.
Kidd displayed those qualities in abundance during a strong summer with Team USA and those areas are well-chronicled weak spots for the Mavs, who followed up a historic collapse to Miami in the 2006 NBA Finals with a first-round flameout against Golden State after winning 67 games last season. A point guard of Kidd’s caliber, influence and experience would undoubtedly please the demanding Johnson, reinvigorate a team that has been lacking energy and confidence. It would also supply Dallas’ coach with a dangerous four-man core of Kidd, Josh Howard, Jason Terry and reigning MVP Dirk Nowitzki.
Nowitzki is the player Kidd has had in mind when privately telling associates in recent months that he hoped to go back to Dallas. Although his desire to leave New Jersey had been suspected all season, Kidd didn’t go public with that wish until late January, when he told ESPN The Magazine’s Ric Bucher that it’s time for him and New Jersey “all to move on” in separate directions.
Kidd was acquired by the Nets in the 2001 offseason in a trade with Phoenix featuring Stephon Marbury. He sparked New Jersey to the most successful period in the team’s NBA history, starting with back-to-back trips to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. After giving strong consideration to signing with San Antonio in the summer of 2003, Kidd elected to stay with the Nets. During the past four-plus seasons, however, New Jersey has not advanced past the second round of the playoffs, despite the 2004 arrival of Vince Carter and Kidd’s successful recovery from microfracture knee surgery.
“He was a great teammate and friend to me,” Nets forward Richard Jefferson told reporters in Toronto. “Of course you want to see him happy, but also you would like to believe that we could have tried to figure out a way to get the problem here fixed. He didn’t believe the problem could be fixed so he asked out and they accommodated him. I think a lot of that was the respect they had for him and what he’s done here.”
The Nets were prepared to deal Kidd to the Lakers at the trade deadline last season but pulled out of the deal when the Lakers refused to part with center Andrew Bynum, who has since blossomed.
Bartelstein said George’s decision was not to avoid going to the Nets. When asked if something might still be worked out, he said, “We’re not going to draw a line in the sand.”
If George’s veto ends up quashing this trade, it would not be the first time that a lesser name caused a monumental deal to collapse. In the summer of 2000, Matt Geiger’s refusal to waive his trade kicker squelched a four-team deal between the Sixers, Pistons, Lakers and Hornets that would have sent Allen Iverson to the Pistons.
ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reports that the Nets and the Mavs were likewise poised to complete a separate trade that would send swingman Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick.

Ca sa nu mai zic de “Shine” al lui Scott Hicks. Prestatia lui Rush in rolul lui David Helfgott a fost rasplatita cu Oscarul pentru rol principal in 1996. Omul e stralucitor.
Recomand ambele filme fara umbra de rezerva.

Din lirica americana moderna si contemporana, partea a III-a.
Bob Kaufman-Round About Midnight
Jazz radio on a midnight kick,
Round about Midnight.
Sitting on the bed,
With a jazz type chick
Round about Midnight,
Piano laughter, in my ears,
Round about Midnight.
Stirring up laughter, dying tears,
Round about Midnight.
Soft blue voices, muted grins,
Excited voices, Father’s sins,
Round about Midnight.
Come on baby, take off your clothes,
Round about Midnight.
Cred ca papa o sa aprecieze

Sa nu se inteleaga ca am ceva impotriva Sfantului Valentin. After all, a fost un martir important pentru istoria Bisericii. Nici nu cred ca e o sarbatoare imperialista. Pur si simplu nu a intrat in traditia familiei mele. Habar nu am de ce, dar cred ca o sa ramana nesarbatorit
