Celtics played with a chip on their shoulder from the get-go and were on edge throughout. It is that feeling, when you’re playing soft but want to play aggressive, when the opponent is tougher than you thought, that transformed positive energy into behavioral problems. So was the case Thursday night. A few skirmishes, no punches, just sufficient temper to take a great Celtic team out of focus by itself. On the other side, Kobe didn’t particularly have a good game, but drained some huge 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to put the Lakers over the top. All in all, the Christmas-day game had a deeper effect on the Celtics that we were led to believe. If we meet in the finals, I think the Lakers have the psychological and basketball momentum.
You CANNOT take away something you didn’t have!!!! What a slap in the face for ESPN and NBAtv who consistently forced and pushed LeBron James’ performance to viewers as more important and more significant historically than Kobe’s. A player, ANY player, that PADS his own stats is not worthy of attention. Even if his name is LeBron. When you are not a center or power forward and you insert yourself nearest to your own basket when the opposition is shooting free throws for the purpose of getting a CHEAP rebound, in effect taking it away from your „bigs”, you are padding your stats. Disingenuous.
The focus on James’ first trip here in November was his free agency in 2010, days after the Knicks made a pair of trades to clear salary cap space for a run at him. This time, the building was still buzzing from Bryant’s performance, and the talk was on whether James could top it.
He said he wouldn’t try – unless the situation called for it.
„We go out and try to win ball games. Myself and Kobe go out and win ball games and sometimes we make games like that,” James said before the game.
„It just so happens where we get high numbers or we make an unbelievable play. It just happens that way. But we’re out there first of all trying to win the basketball game. I never go into a game saying I’m going to try to put up a decent amount of numbers or anything like that. I’ve never been that type of player.”
Yet he was looking for his own shot to start and was ahead of Bryant’s pace early on, draining a jumper at the buzzer to give him 20 points in the first quarter – two more than Bryant had – and Cleveland a 36-24 lead.
„I felt a few shots go in and just continued to try to work that hand and just try to see if I was really feeling hot, and I was able to knock a few shots down,” James said.
Cum adica was the Madison Square Garden right? 😀 Wtf indeed!
The NY crowd is very, very knowledgeable. It was simply an unbelievable performance by a very, very special player. When Spike Lee gets up, shakes his head and start applauding you know you had to witness history in the making.
To me, Jordan’s 55 points, the record that Kobe just beat, is still the best performance ever in Madison Square Garden, because he did against a very talented, defense-oriented Pat Riley-led team, 5 games after he came back from retirement.
Kobe’s was almost as imppresive, an array of incredible shots, all a highlight reel. Two best individual players of all-times, shadowed only by the best team player of all times, Magic Johnson.
asta numesti tu concurs LIRIC?
IN 10 zile am jucat 6 meciuri in deplasare, de 2 ori in back-to-back nights, castigandu-le pe toate. Victorii la Minnesota, Memphis (unde s-a accidentat Bynum 😦 ) New York, Toronto, Boston si Cleveland. In schimb l-am dat pe Radmanovic pt Adam Morrison si Shannon Brown ca sa castigam un an de salariu.
